Data quality check for your spreadsheet or database export
It checks four things against rules we agree with you first. It does not prove your numbers are right. Sold by Bash Tail.
What it checks
- Blank
- A column that must always be filled in is empty, such as a customer number on an order.
- Repeated
- A value that should be unique appears more than once, such as an order number.
- Too old
- A date is older than a limit you choose, measured from when your export was taken.
- Out of range
- A number is outside limits you choose, such as an amount below 0 or above 10,000.
By default, ORD-1 and ord-1, or a value with an extra space, count as different values. We can agree to treat them as the same.
What it does not do
- It is a data-quality check, not an accounting audit. Do not show the report to a bank, lender, auditor or tax authority as an audit.
- "No findings" means none of the agreed rules fired. It does not add up totals, compare one system with another, or spot values that look normal but are wrong.
- It never changes or repairs your file. Any fixes are a separate job, agreed separately.
What you get and the price
Pricing on request: hello@bashtail.com
What the price covers is agreed with you in writing before you pay anything.
One check of one export (a CSV file, or a database file exported from your system) against the rules we agree. You receive:
- a readable report listing which rows to look at and why, with a standard next-step question for each rule
- the same results as a machine-readable file
- your file's fingerprint, so you or your accountant can confirm exactly which file was checked
Who runs it
You choose one of two ways in the contract. We run it on our computers: you send the export through a private channel we agree, and we send you the report. Or your own IT people run it on your systems from a written recipe we give them.
What we need from you
- The export, and the name of a column that gives every row its own ID. Please use an internal number rather than an email address, name or phone number, because row IDs appear in the report.
- Which columns must be filled in, which must be unique, which dates must be recent and which numbers have limits.
- The date and time the export was taken.
- Written permission to process the data, and data-processing terms we both sign.
What happens to your data
- The tool only reads your file. It records the file's fingerprint before and after the check to show nothing changed.
- Apart from the row IDs, the report contains no values from your cells.
- How long we keep copies, and the contract itself, are written down and shared with you before any work starts.

We are still finalizing our contract and data-processing terms, so this page describes the service and is not yet an offer. Email us and we will send the terms when they are ready.
Want your export checked?
Tell us what the file is, roughly how many rows it has and which columns matter. Please do not email the file itself.
